My Date with a Dragonfruit
Tonight I climbed up a ladder, lit only by moonlight and did my best to pollinate our one glorious Dragonfruit flower! These majestic flowers bloom for less than a day! The other day, it was barely a bud.
I almost didn’t even notice this big beautiful flower! It’s high up on a ledge where it gets a lot of sunlight.
This morning it was still a closed bud, and it magically opened late tonight with it’s long perfect silky petals and sweet scent. I had pollen all over my fingers when I was done!
Worried I would miss our opportunity for a fruit I wriggled my fingertips and hopefully pollinated it. If we’re lucky, some friendly moths will flutter into the giant flower to help pollinate it too. I hope so! Last year Brian did this and a dragonfruit grew.
So I’m hoping it will work again! We’ll have to wait and see 🙂
